Equine Artist Bobbie Deuell
Equine Artist Information :
Equine Artist Biography:
For Bobbie Deuell, horses and her artwork are intrinsically connected. With no family background in the former or formal education in the latter, Deuell cannot remember a time that she did not love both horses and art. She began sketching in high school and acquired her first horse, an American Saddlebred, when she was 14. But then college and establishing her career as a nurse forced Deuell to put aside both horses and pursuing her art. It would be almost 20 years before both returned to her life. First she began riding again and the passion for art slowly re-emerged as well. When Deuell wanted a portrait of her three dogs and couldn’t afford to commission anyone to do it, she decided to do it herself. She began taking classes in colored pencil shortly thereafter and was back on track.
Deuell feels a spiritual connection between horses and her art. What she describes as the magnificent beauty of the horse provides her the inspiration for her art. Deuell prefers her subjects to be in natural, casual settings that capture the special relationship between horse and rider. She works from photos, crediting her art for making her hone her skills as a photographer. Deuell continues to explore the various mediums and works in colored pencils, water colors and oils.
Originally from the Midwest, Deuell has lived in north central Florida for the past 20 years. Now a registered physical therapist, she lives in Ocala on her Bright Idea Farm with two horses and three dogs. She has a 14 year old Appendix Quarter horse, Danny, and a 25-year-old Quarter horse gelding named James Garner.
Deuell is a member of STRIDE, a local dressage club, as well the Marion Cultural Alliance, the Equine Art Guild, the Canine Art Guild and the Equine Photographer's Network. She has been juried into the 2003 American Academy of Equine Art fall show and the "24 Hours in the Life of Ocala" exhibit and book.
